Curriculum Support ProgramsLibrary ServicesThe regional library has a visiting service that stops outside the school every second Tuesday. This service is available to all members of the community with students being taken out to borrow as part of the school program. It is important that as many people take advantage of this service as possible as infrequent use may mean the closing of the service to Nungurner.
In addition to the regional library we have the MARC library (Mobile Area Resource Centre). The MARC van visits a number of schools in the area on a fortnightly basis. As well as being able to borrow books students have library and literacy lessons from the MARC teacher.
Private Coaching & Music LessonsIn the past we have been able to organise private tennis lessons which have run during school time for part of the year. For the fourth year in a row and also expected to take place in 2007 children learnt Tae Kwon Do which was held in school time at a very modest cost.
Students also have the opportunity to take private music lesson with a visiting teacher. A wide range of instruments are taught with many being able to be hired for a small fee. Since 2002 all children have learnt the descant recorder and this is certain to continue next year. Ten children also learnt an instrument this year and hopefully this will develop even further next year. Sponsorship in 2006 has allowed the school to purchase $10,000 of its own instruments, which guarantees the continuing success development of this program.
It should be noted that while these classes are offered during school time these lessons are a private arrangement made between parents and the tutor. There is no teacher supervision during lessons and fees and payments must be negotiated between you and the tutor. Mr John Brehaut who provides this service does it at an extraordinarily cheap price and I am keen to encourage all students to be involved here. John is also a trained teacher and gifted music teacher.
Religious EducationThe school offers a non-denominational religious education program for half an hour each week. The program is run by Alan and Jeanette Marchant who present a very student based program based on personal behaviour, attitudes towards others and making sensible life choices.
