Medical InformationChildren’s IllnessesThe best place for students who are ill is at home. The school does not have a sickbay so there is no where comfortable or quiet for students who are ill to rest. If your child is sick, please keep him/her home.
If your child becomes ill at school and needs to go home we will contact you or one of the people listed as an emergency contact. MedicationIt would be appreciated if you could let us know if your child is taking any medication. Please list the dose and time to be administered.
We are not able to administer pain killers unless we have written permission and they have been provided by you. We will not allow children to administer their own drugs from home. Infectious DiseasesIn compliance with DoE regulations, students with certain infectious diseases are to be excluded from school for set periods of time. In a few cases, other family members are also to be excluded. It should also be noted that students with incomplete immunisation certificates may also be excluded.
Infectious Diseases: Chickenpox; Diphtheria; Viral Hepatitis; Impetigo; Leprosy; Measles; Meningoccal Infection; Mumps; Pediculosis; Whooping Cough; Poliomyelitis; Ringworm; Rubella; Scabies; Steptococcal Infection (including scarlet fever); Tuberculosis; Typhoid and Paratyphoid Fever.
Parents are expected to regularly check their children’s hair for head lice and reminded that children are to be excluded from school until treatment has been given. Please contact the school if head lice are found.
If your child should contract any of these illnesses contact the school for more details about the length of exclusion etc. School NurseOnce a year the school is visited by a school nurse who offers a health assessment for students in their first year of school. Amongst other things the nurse checks sight and hearing. Parents are encouraged to meet with the nurse to discuss any concerns.
The nurse is also available for other students regarding any health concerns that parents or teachers may have. All information is confidential.
Dental ServiceThe school dental van visits for a short time every two to three years. Each student is examined and then the dentist will either send home a note explaining what dental work will be done, or will contact parents by phone.
In the past this has been a free service but as from 1997 there has been a shared cost arrangement for those people who do not have a Commonwealth Healthcare card.
The school also has links with Psychological counselors and speech therapists and can refer students for assessments by these professionals.
